It's kinda hard to imagine that a skeleton with 30 year old rotting
flesh hanging off of it wouldn't be recognized, even in Niles.

But all seriousness aside, it's nice to learn what the members of
arguably the best educated (as regards silent film history) population
of any small town in the United States would or wouldn't recognize,
especially from an Ozie who's never been there, and very probably
hasn't even met anyone who has. Thanks for the contribution, and
education.

I remember Chaplin in King Vidor,s SHOW PEOPLE and that was the image
that believed many people would NOT recognised. Thanks for your
compliments on my post and Itruly appreciate your kind, friendly words

An idea for a screen-play, CHARLEY IN NILE. It would chronicle the
period of Chaplin,s residence in the township of Nile.

I was very impressed with how Niles has preserved much of the history of the
area. I had visited there about ten years ago and wished I could have seen
more of it (I was only able to spend a short time in the area one day, and
missed the Niles Festival, which was showing some rare Broncho Billy
Anderson films that I would have loved to see). I do remember an interesting
memorabilia shop which had lots of photos and other items from the Essanay
studios.

Incidentally, I did just get back from a trip to Hollywood, where I managed
to find a number of Chaplin filming locations (including the studio itself)
thanks to the work of Gerald Smith, David Totheroh and others on the
"Chaplin Then and Now" site. It's amazing how little some of these spots
have changed. I was able to visit the spot in Venice where "Kid Auto Races"
was shot; Olvera Street, which was used for "The Kid"; and the San Pedro
harbor, used in "Modern Times".
