I think there is another Red Letter Postcard that shows Charlie at an
amusement park (?) in a scene that can't be directly connected to any
of his Essanay films.

Lee sounds to me like a star-struck wannabee who may have had a
connection with someone working at the studio. Chaplin seems to have
been
rather generous about assisting aspiring actors/artists. There are
cases we know of, and probably many more that we don't know anything
about.
